DESCRIPTION:The 2017 Virginia Avenue Folk Fest will be the third annual version of the largest single day music festival in the state of Indiana and one the largest in the country. 100 acts playing across 13 stages take over Virginia Avenue on May 13 throughout the neighborhoods of Fountain Square and Fletcher Place in Indianapolis. The festival is free and all ages. A portion of the proceeds from the event goes to Southeast Community Services in Fountain Square. There will be dozens of art vendors and organizations set up with booths in addition to the music.

Johnson (Fruitbats) 9pm\nAll Ages\n$15 \nFruit Bats (solo)\nOn most nights playing with Fruit Bats\, I do a solo song or two. On drunken chatty nights it can veer from silly to infuriating. But when the feeling in the room is just right\, it can be pretty special. Once I couldn’t get my guitar to tune just right and I had to do an acapella version of Lazy Eye in front of a sold-out Aladdin Theater in Portland. That was scary and awesome. It felt like we were all in a little parlor together and you could hear a pin drop. \nAnyway\, this series of shows is about capturing some living-room spirit in your favorite rock-n-roll clubs. And to make it into a little more something\, I’m going to let fans curate half of the set list every night. People yell out requests a lot (especially on the aforementioned drunken chatty nights\, but on the quiet ones too)… But those requests can be hard to fulfill – I’ve made lot of albums and we don’t rehearse every song with the full band\, so we can’t always just bust those out on the fly. But as a solo dude\, I’m up for the challenge and I’m putting it to you\, Fruit Bats fans: what do you want to hear? \nMichael Nau is joining me on the bill for this tour where he’ll be singing you his timeless songs in a solo format too. You might remember his old band Cotton Jones\, who were and are of my favorites ever. I think he’s a treasure and has one of the ultimate singing voices ever. I’m thrilled he’ll be playing some his for-the-ages songs on this trip. His latest album “Mowing” is a must have.

DESCRIPTION:$5 Advance / $7 Door \nFrances Luke Accord are an independent Chicago-based duo hailing originally from South Bend\, Indiana. Both dedicated multi-instrumentalists and meticulous songwriters\, Nicholas Gunty and Brian Powers distinguish their music with genre fluidity\, buttery harmonies and acoustic ensembles. Although prevailingly a modern folk band\, FLA sip copious inspiration from Americana\, jazz\, soul\, and rock.\nSince forming during their senior year at the University of Notre Dame\, Frances Luke Accord’s approach to music has marked a boundless evolution. In December of 2012 the duo released their first record\, Kandote\, a not-for-profit\, intercultural collaboration with the Barefoot Truth Children’s Choir of Kkindu\, Uganda — an endeavor that continues to support the primary education and musical aspirations of the choir. Bringing their world/folk sound to Chicago in the summer of 2013\, the duo quickly garnered local and regional attention for their captivating live performances and stunning self-produced releases\, including the Queen for Me EP (April 2014)\, Live @ Strobe (April 2015)\, and\, most notably\, their debut full-length album\, Fluke (May 2016).
