SUMMARY:YAT: The Secret Garden
DESCRIPTION:Families\, school-age children and teens are invited to a performance of the classic story\, “The Secret Garden\,” reimagined by 4th through 12th grade students of the Young Actors Theatre. It’s about a girl named Mary who is determined to revive the beauty of the garden that once was. Surrounded by spirits from the past\, who both warn and welcome her\, determined Mary begins to peel away the layers of sadness that cover the house and the garden\, showing us the power that one small girl can have when she wants things to grow. This program\, to be held in Central Library’s Clowes Auditorium\, is made possible by the Robert & Toni Bader Charitable Foundation and Friends of the Library through gifts to The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation.

Anne Parsons\, Department of History\, University of North Carolina at Greensboro\, will offer some remarks on the intersections of the rise of mass incarceration with the deinstitutionalization of mental hospitals.  A panel moderated by Dr. Modupe Labode including Kenneth J. Falk\, (Legal Director\, ACLU of Indiana) and Maurice Young (founder\, Creative Change Project) will offer perspectives on the implications of these issues for Indianapolis..
