Cottage Home Neighborhood History: Street by Street
May 13, 2021 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Established in late 1860s.
Where was Bedbug Row? Why did residents call the area Rat Town? Where were John, Campbell, Archer and Hanna Streets? Did you know that Cottage Home had over a dozen grocery stores, bars and restaurants and even a nickelodeon? This 76-acre neighborhood was developed in the late 1860s by the families of Governor Noah Noble and General Robert Hanna. Early residents, working-class people of German, Irish and African descent, occupied primarily shotgun and gingerbread cottages constructed between 1870 and 1910.
